ESSEX Police has issued an update regarding an A12 carriageway incident which caused traffic delays for motorists.

The southbound A12 near Kelvedon was closed this morning after police officers were called to the area shortly before 7.55am, today, October 17.

The closure was due to a crash involving a motorbike and Essex Police asked for motorists to “avoid” the area.

There were lengthy delays for motorists in the area due to the closure.

Colchester resident, Dean Frost, 29, was stuck in traffic caused by the incident this morning.

At the time he said: "I am sitting in standstill traffic, I've probably been here for 45-minutes.

"I am trying to go to Thorpe Park today.

"But obviously and more importantly, I hope the people involved in the accident are okay."

Now, the force has confirmed that no-one has been seriously injured.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The A12 has re-opened following a collision involving a motorbike southbound near Kelvedon shortly before 7.55am today.

“No-one has been seriously injured.

“The road was closed for a while as emergency services responded to it.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

The carriageway has now been reopened.

The East of England Ambulance Service has also commented on the incident.

A spokesman said:  "We were called at 8am with reports of a collision on the A12 near Kelvedon.

"We sent an ambulance and an ambulance officer vehicle.

"A man has been taken to Broomfield Hospital for further care."
