A DRIVER was caught doing 104mph on the A12 during speed checks by police officers in Colchester.
Speed Enforcement Officers were checking speeds of motorists in and around the A12 in the north of the county this week.
On October 16, they attended various locations including Dedham, Wakes Colne, Layer De La Haye to enforce the speed limits.
A total of 43 speeders were captured on camera, with the highest speed of 50mph in a 30mph zone.
The highest speed recorded was a vehicle going 104mph in a 70mph, meaning they were driving 34mph over the limit.
An Essex Police spokesman said this was "totally unacceptable".
The officers also supported two Community Speedwatch groups who were monitoring speed at the roadside and received plenty of positive reactions from members of the public.
