A NEW compactor bin has been put in place on a Colchester estate.
Councillor Dave Harris, supported by his Labour group, all worked together to secure the bin for Wethersfield Road.
A compactor bin is designed to hold four to five times as much rubbish as a normal bin and is solar powered.
The bins are a way to ensure that workers do not have to tend to bin as frequently and will also result in more people taking notice of where they can put their litter.
This compactor bin on Wethersfield Road is the second one in the area, after one was placed on Iceni Way.
Mr Harris said: “We activated it and we’re really happy with it and the community will hopefully see less litter on the streets.
“We would like to see more of these bins put in place, but they do of course cost a lot.
“Residents didn’t know what it was and when we explained they were so happy with it and this is good as residents see that the council is putting money into this kind of thing.
“How about Colchester being at the front of cutting-edge technology, I think it will be of better interest to the young ones to put their litter in the bin.”
