TWO people arrested as part of a probe into the death of a five month old baby will face no further action.
Emergency services attended Seatrade House in North Station Road in April following concerns for the welfare of the infant.
Essex Police officers were called to the site before the baby was taken to hospital by paramedics.
The baby could not be revived and death was confirmed on Tuesday, April 2.
Today an inquest was opened into the death of five-month old Hailey Thompson, with area coroner Michelle Brown telling the court a cause of death had not been confirmed after a post-mortem examination.
She said: “A post-mortem was undertaken and a cause of death following histology and toxicology was unascertained.”
The coroner added a police investigation into the baby’s death has now been discontinued.
At the time a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and released under investigation whilst enquiries continued.
Mrs Brown said: “There was originally a police investigation but I have been notified by the police this morning that has ceased, so [the inquest] can go ahead in the normal way.”
A documentary inquest is expected to take place at a later date.
Essex Police has been contacted for comment.
