Castle Ward Councillor Richard Kirkby-Taylor is urging the public to help with the situation and believes it is not a cause for alarm.

“It is incredibly rare these things come out of nowhere and affect individuals without any greater context.

“I don’t think this is a reason to be alarmed.

“That said anyone who knows anything should coordinate with police and pass information on.

“It is always a shame when these things happen, obviously it is not great for reputation of the city, and this kind of antisocial behaviour is utterly unacceptable.

He continued: “We need to find out the full story of what happened and I hope no passer-by was injured and that third individual who is not under arrest or investigation didn’t receive any injuries.”

Fellow Ward Councillor Mark Goacher echoed Mr Kirkby-Taylor’s sentiment and thinks it “shouldn’t pose a wider threat to anyone.”

He was also very surprised to hear about an incident in East Bay as he knows the area very well.

Mr Goacher said: “It generally is a quiet area down there, most issues have been about parking, so it does seem quite unusual.”

Update

Essex Police has now confirmed the woman has been released on bail until January 11, 2025.
