DANNY Cowley feels the ‘spirit and togetherness’ of his Colchester United squad will be key when they host Salford City this weekend – and says supporters can also play their part.
The U’s host the Ammies at the JobServe Community Stadium in a lunchtime clash tomorrow (12.30pm kick-off), aiming to register their first League Two win in six attempts.
Colchester will head into the match missing a number of players, including Samson Tovide, Owura Edwards and Anthony Scully.

However, U’s head coach Cowley wants his players to meet the challenge head on and feels fans can contribute to a home victory.
Cowley said: “We obviously have a number of injuries to key attacking players, so it’s tough.
“In moments of adversity, you learn a lot and if you want to be good, you have to dig deep.
“You definitely can’t fault the spirit and the togetherness and willingness of the group and this is going to be so important, going forward.
“Come Saturday, it’s going to need all of us – the players, the staff and of course, our wonderful supporters.
“The options are less at the moment because of the injuries but we still have some really good options.
“We have a lot of faith and a lot of trust in our group and we’ll make some intelligent decisions, going forward.
“We’re going to need to draw on all of our minerals to put a good performance together and hopefully find a positive result.”
It has been a demanding week so far for Colchester, who followed up their home game with Cheltenham Town with a midweek trip to Chesterfield.

The running stats were high for the U's players against the Spireites and Lyle Taylor, who came on as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw, is set to return to the starting line-up for the game against Salford.
“We train the body to be fitter and stronger and the games are ultimately opportunities to develop physically," added Cowley.
“I suppose if you have the weak mind, you’re tired after running 12.5k but if you’re strong minded, you’re fitter and stronger as a consequence.
“We know how the human body and fitness adaptation works and you work the body harder than it wants to be worked.
“The body then thinks, I don’t like this feeling, I need to adapt so that I can cope with the demand next time it comes.
“There’ll be a lot of adaptation in the time between Tuesday and Saturday and the boys will be fitter and stronger, as a consequence of that.”
