COLCHESTER United fans are getting ready to support striker Lyle Taylor’s Pink October campaign tomorrow.

U’s supporters are set to play their part, while the club's players will wear special t-shirts prior to their game against Salford City at the JobServe Community Stadium (kick-off 12.30pm).

Taylor dyed his hair pink at the beginning of the month, to raise awareness for Cancer Research UK.

Colchester boss Danny Cowley said: “It’s brilliant from Lyle.

“I loved what he said from the outset, in that he knows how tough it is for people at the moment financially and he certainly didn’t want to put people in a difficult position but he just wants to raise the awareness, if nothing else and I think he’s done that brilliantly.

“Lyle has a heart of gold and from the moment I met him, we’ve built a special relationship and he always has a special place in my heart, for sure.

“Lyle did come to me and asked if he could have Monday off, because he’s got to dye his hair back!

“There’s not many 34-year-olds who can look good with pink hair – he actually looks younger!

“It’s great to see a lot of the supporters wearing pink wigs.

“It’s obviously a cause that’s very close to his heart and a cause that affects so many people in this world.

“It’s great that he’s able to not just raise some money but to also raise awareness.

“We live in the 21st century – there must be some way we can find the necessary cures.

“Hopefully, we’re getting closer but we have to keep trying to fund the research ultimately.

“It’s a horrible disease and one that affects so many people’s lives.”

It is the fifth time Taylor has carried out his Pink October campaign and the U’s striker says the reception has been brilliant.

Taylor told Col U TV: “This is the one we had earmarked for being pink day.

“I want to say thank you to everybody at the football club and in the wider community too, because the reception has been brilliant - I’ve spoken to some really good people about their families and the times that they’ve had to deal with, with cancer in their own little units, so I thank everybody for participating.

“It means the world to me.

“Let’s have a big pink day on Saturday and send everyone home with three points.”
