KARL Robinson was pleased with his Salford City side’s overall display after they won 2-1 at Colchester United to claim a first away victory of the season.

Goals from Kylian Kouassi and Kelly N'Mai gave the Ammies all three points at the JobServe Community Stadium to secure them back-to-back league wins.

The win lifted Salford up to 13th place, in League Two.

Salford head coach Robinson said: “It’s a nice feeling to come away with our first away win of the season.

“I think anyone watching would think we were very passive in the first half but we had complete control of the game.

“We took a big risk today with the team shape, which we don’t often do.

“We were quite meticulous in how we set the team up but I feel that today needed something different and I can assure you the conversations we’ve had on Thursday and Friday have been very in-depth and very long and a lot of arguments and a lot of debate, to try to find the perfect balance of freshness, fluidity which at times we had but at other times, we looked a little bit rusty.

“I put that down to fatigue with three games in a week and I’m really, really pleased with our output, to come away with the win.

“Now it’s full steam ahead to Fleetwood, on Tuesday.

"If we think today is good enough, then we'll get beat on Tuesday."

Last week, Salford assistant manager Alex Bruce took leave of absence due to the tragic passing of his four-month-old nephew Madison, the son of their former player, Matt Smith.

Robinson said: "If people knew what we've been through in this building in the last seven to eight days, it puts football second.

"What I've seen on that training ground this week, I hope I don't have to see for a long, long time.

"Then we had some news of an injury we've had, which hit us again.

"With Matt's news this week, I've had some news as well, it's just been a frenzy of emotions and you end up going home and taking it out on the people that are closest to you.

"The way my players have dealt with this week's news and the way that they've dealt with some of the situations regarding their friends, we're all just together and I think you see that in how we converge with the subs and when people come off and when we score goals, it's a very close team but a close team needs to be a better team and we still need to improve."
