COLCHESTER’S first immersive scare experience held its opening night last week, taking visitors through time and sharing spooky stories of the city’s past.
Castle Park Theatre has teamed up with Colchester Council to present Beware the Scare.
The experience aims to educate visitors on the city’s sinister history, with actors embodying residents of the past to give visitors a scare.
The event held its opening night last Friday (October 25) at Colchester Town Hall, providing an eerie tour of the building as visitors are taken through the centuries.
Once the scares are complete, there is a huge seating and dining area, with a licensed bar and refreshments, waiting for surviving visitors.
While there were a few technical difficulties it didn't detract too much from the show.
In terms of the scare level, there were a couple of jumps, but you can go along without worry about being too traumatised.
The event will run until November 2, with tickets priced between £20 and £25.
Castle Park Theatre’s artistic director, Neil D’Arcy Jones said: “We're not scaring Sunday, Monday and Tuesday - even ghosts have to have days off.
“We're hoping this will be an annual event so we will look at creating a similar experience for young Halloween lovers.
“The building of the town hall is perfect for it and there's loads more rooms to explore for future years.”
