A PROPERTY home to a longstanding Colchester nightclub has been listed for sale for more than £700,000 online.
The site is home to Robert’s Bar, in Vineyard Street, and is currently up for sale for £725,000 freehold.
It was listed on Rightmove by the property firm, Essex and Suffolk Business Sales Limited and the site spans 5,500sq feet, that is £131.82 per square foot.
Robert’s Bar has been established in the city for more than 30 years and is a nightclub and bar which is available for private hire and events.
The three-storey building comes with a two-bedroom flat and has a “high-profile position” near the High Street and is also close to the city centre train station.
The nightclub area has a capacity for 500 customers.
It underwent a £150,000 investment for new audio and lighting equipment as well as some refurbishment work, according to a statement on Rightmove.
Robert’s Bar was established in the 1980’s and has only had two owners since then, the current owner has owned it for 24 years and now wants to sell the business “due to retirement”.
The Rightmove description said: “The business is well presented, furnished with quality fixtures and fittings, and is being sold with a full complement of equipment.
“The business is highly regarded in the local area supported by a regular and mature clientele.”
Castle ward Councillor Richard Kirkby-Taylor has reacted to the listing.
He said: “I can’t say I’ve been in there, but it appears to be fairly popular.
“It is always nice when a successful business owner makes movement before they think about retiring, I hope they will find a buyer who can continue the successful business.
“I wish them the best of luck.”
It is also specified on Rightmove that the “annual turnover is circa £150,000 working to limited hours only open Friday and Saturday nights”.
It is also stated that “business rates” are payable “£5,000 per annum”.
After The Gazette contacted Essex and Suffolk Business Sales Limited for a comment and images on this listing, they declined.
The firm said that their client “objected to any story on his business being published”.
