THE upper deck of Colchester station's car park is set to be demolished, it has been confirmed.
Colchester station car park’s upper deck will be destroyed for safety reasons, train operator Greater Anglia has said.
Following a survey of the area, it was found there was potential for deterioration of the structure.
According to the train operator, the works are likely to take up to 12 months, however, the timescales for the completion have not been finalised.
In a statement, it said: “Car park users will be able to use other parts of the station car park, which has enough capacity to accommodate all cars that have previously been parked in that area.
“Signage will be put in place to direct users to the appropriate areas, including temporary spaces for Blue Badge holders and disabled parking and for motorcycle users.
“We will keep customers informed of developments and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused to car park users during this transitionary period.”
A traffic light system has been put in place in the car park and users of the car park are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
