ROLLERWORLD has revealed it is eyeing up reopening at Colchester's Northern Gateway... if it can secure enough cash.
The popular roller-skating venue closed for good after more than 30 years in November 2022.
But two years after owners Anne and Jason Khan took the heartbreaking decision they have revealed hopes of finding a new permanent home.
Following the closure of the popular venue in Moorside, Rollerworld Colchester has been transformed into the Rollerworld Foundation, hosting regular events at Charter Hall and in Ipswich.
These events have been a beacon of hope for bosses Anne and Jason Khan, who see that residents miss the skate rink.
Anne said: “We are running them as regular as we possibly can. They are really successful and there is a really big need for events and a facility.”
For a year the Rollerworld Foundation has acted as a non-profit charitable organisation with the aim to find a new home for ‘Rollerworld 2’.
The organisers have confirmed that they are still on the lookout for a new venue in Colchester, as they are eying Northern Gateway as a possible new home.
Anne said: “We are looking at Northern Gateway, but we need to raise quite a lot of money.
“We can finally apply for grants, now that we have been a charity for a year. We also have a crowd funder.
“For us, it is full steam ahead, as we are fundraising quite heavily at the moment.”
Bringing back the much-loved venue as soon as possible is the priority, as bosses have an ambitious goal in mind.
“We would love to see Rollerwold back by the middle of next year,” said Anne.
“Rollerwold is a community venture, and, unfortunately, there is a lack of community buildings in Colchester.”
A Come Roll With Us event at Charter Hall will take place on November 9 and all attendees who are not bringing their own skates are encouraged to book their skate hire in advance.
On the day will be different sessions, such as a relaxed skate, a family skate and a over 14’s Roller Disco in the evening.
Additionally, Lucy T Fitness will host an exclusive fitness class between 5pm and 6pm.
