COLCHESTER will be welcoming a brand new retailer to its ever-growing city centre soon.
Søstrene Grene, a Danish homeware and lifestyle store, will be coming to Culver Square at the former Superdry space.
It will be the family-owned chain's first store in Essex, and here is all you need to know.
What is Søstrene Grene?
Pronounced ‘sos-tron-e gre-nuh, the brand name translates to "the Grene sisters", named after Anna and Clara, who are the hosts of the brand.
It was founded by husband-and-wife team Inger Grene and Knud Cresten Vaupell Olsen.
Anna and Clara have been the hosts since the opening of the first store in the Danish city of Aarhus in 1973.
Their website describes Anna as a "creative aesthete", while her sister Clara is "practical and organised", and together, they represent "all that Søstrene Grene is and has to offer".
The brand has more than 300 stores worldwide, with the Retail Gazette reporting that it hopes to open more than 100 stores across the UK by 2030.
What does the brand sell?
The chain sells everything from furniture and kitchen supplies to children’s toys, hobby items and party supplies.
Søstrene Grene will fill shelves with candles, vases, and other homeware products which embrace the essence of ‘hygge’ - a Danish concept centred around taking time away from the daily rush to “relax and enjoy life’s quieter pleasures.”
Their website has Rooms, Products, DIY Projects, Home, Children and Stationary categories listed.
When is the new store coming to Colchester?
The retailer has advertised for a store manager for its Colchester branch, at Unit 16 Culver Square.
The deadline for store manager applications is December 1.
While it is not exactly clear when the shop will open, applications being sought are a positive for it opening in what can only be estimated as the coming months.
Nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet.
