FESTIVE fun was enjoyed by hundreds as Christmas returned to Colchester.
The city centre was packed with residents to enjoy all of the seasonal events on offer.
There was much to do in various areas, with the High Street's festive light parade and Lion Walk's light show topping the bill.
Culver Square's lights were on by 4pm, kicking off the evening, before crowds gathered to watch the big parade head through the city.
A number of schools from across the city took part, including Lexden Primary School, North Primary School, Colchester Prep and High School, Roach Vale Primary School, Millfield’s School, Hamilton Primary School, St Thomas More School and Heathlands School.
As the parade made its way along the High Street, the Christmas lights lit up with festive spirit, with the town hall and other key buildings also sparkling in the night.
The later evening's centrepiece was at Lion Walk shopping centre, where a captivating lights show took place.
Entertainment such as live music was put on, with Colchester Has Talent winner, 12-year-old Ivy May, also performing.
Bronze medallist from the Paris Olympics, Lewis Richardson, appeared on stage alongside the set from the Mercury Theatre’s pantomime as part of the big switch-on.
Colchester mayor Lesley Scott-Boutell said: “Tonight, Colchester truly sparkled with festive spirit as we launched the holiday season with the annual Light Up Colchester event.
“Watching the High Street light up with projections, lanterns, and larger-than-life puppets was a heart-warming reminder of the magic and togetherness that defines this special time of year.
"My heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success for our community, especially the organisers, performers, and families who joined us.
“Together, we've created memories that will last a lifetime and brightened the spirit of Colchester.”
