A NEW walking group to help women improve their mental and physical health and form new friendships has launched in Colchester.
City resident, Rebecca Woolf, 48, launched the Walk N Talk group in September.
She said: “I saw a real need for a space where women could come together in a supportive environment, enjoy the benefits of fresh air and exercise, and connect with each other.”
“Many women, including myself, in the community face challenges with mental health, loneliness, or just want to improve their physical health.
“I wanted to create a space where they can freely be themselves and feel supported.
“It has been amazing to see how quickly it has grown since the launch.”
Walk n Talk has more than 700 online members, and nearly 20 women participating in various walks around the area every Tuesday evening, enjoying countryside trails, nature reserves, country parks and more.
Every Wednesday, the group attends a Coffee N Chat ‘drop in’ at the Live and Let Live pub in Stanway, allowing members to enhance new friendships in a different setting.
“The main aims for the group are to encourage positive mental health, combat loneliness, and create a safe and friendly environment where women can support each other," said Rebecca.
“Walking is incredible for your health, both mentally and physically.
“The group is women-only because I wanted to create a safe, comfortable space where women could talk openly without feeling self-conscious or guarded.
“There’s something about walking alongside other women that can really break down barriers and make people feel more at ease.
“By keeping it women-only, we ensure everyone feels secure, supported, and free to be themselves.”
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the weekly walks, with Rebecca keen to introduce more dog-friendly walks.
She added: “I am so proud of what Walk N Talk Colchester has achieved in such a short time.
“The way women from different walks of life have come together, shared stories, supported each other, and enjoyed the simple act of walking together is truly inspiring.
“I think it’s proof of the power of community and connection, and I can’t wait to see how we continue to grow.
“Personally, it has also been a huge help to me both mental and physically, as I am now walking five times a week with the most amazing women.”
