COLCHESTER Zoo has welcomed another adorable infant as one of its monkeys has welcomed in a new member to its family.

Keepers have announced the venue's squirrel monkey Milu has given birth to a female baby squirrel monkey with male Malcolm.

Milu will now carry the new born on her back until the baby is strong enough to explore and climb on her own.

The new addition is yet to be named by the animal care team and is the experienced mum's sixth baby.

The zoo says Milu can often be spotted jumping through branches with her young infant at the site's heart of the Amazon habitat.

Zoo-goers may also see Milu urinating on her hands which keepers say is a normal method squirrel monkeys use to mark their territory and to regulate their body temperature.

Although squirrel monkeys are registered as ‘Least Concern’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, they are affected every year by the exotic pet trade and the deforestation and destruction of their home.

Since its establishment in 1974, the organisation has become known as one of the world’s most comprehensive sources on global extinction status data for animals, fungus and plant species.

King vulture Midas hatched a healthy chick earlier this year.

It was seen as great news as keepers said the species has experienced a recent substantial decrease in wild populations.

As well as this, two rock hyrax, Cindy Lou and Ryan, welcomed two little pups and can be found at their home at Inca Trail.
