Pictures show emergency services on the scene of a fire in the old Gamet Bearings building.

The Gamet Bearings Factory, in Hythe Station Road and Greenstead Road, Colchester, has been empty since 2019.

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: "Firefighters from Colchester, Weeley, Clacton, Brightlingsea and an Aerial Ladder Platform from Chelmsford are all currently working to extinguish the fire."

A previous fire took place at the site back in January 2023.

Police, fire, ambulance and UK Power Networks are all on scene this afternoon.

Michael Powell, 44, lives where the fire engines have stopped to put out the fire.

He rushed over from work to check it wasn't his house.

Michael said: “It’s probably the fourth or fifth fire this year.

“There is a big hole in the end where people can get in.

“I had a letter through my door it was supposed to be demolished on November 14, it’s going to be a five-storey monstrosity.”
