A WOMAN found severely decomposed in her house died of natural but unascertained causes.

Tanya Lynn Borley, 65, from Gloucester Avenue, in Colchester, died on August 26, 2023.

A documentary inquest into her death took place on November 21.

Chelmsford Coroner's Court heard Borley lived alone and had a significant medical history, including having diabetes mellitus, and hyperthyroidism.

Borley was also diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1981.

Coroner Michelle Brown, said that “ultimately as she kept herself to herself” it is “very hard to determine” what could have been done to help her.

This included both adult social care services and Essex Partnership University Trust (EPUT) who both responded to the inquest.

Ms Brown also said she was "satisfied" that Borley died of natural but "uncertain" causes as she was found severely decomposed.

There was no sign of disturbance in Borley’s flat which had a “messy appearance”.

Borley was said to have no friends or family and neighbours said they only saw her go out every other day to go shopping.

Borley's death was also estimated to be in the week between July 26 and July 31, a month before she was found.
