CALLS have been made for greater support to tackle knife crime after a terrifying incident saw a man robbed at knife-point in his own home.
Police were called to reports of the robbery at an address in Quayside Drive, Colchester at about, 6.50pm on Wednesday, November 20.
It was reported a victim had been robbed by three suspects at his home address.
The suspects threatened the victim, taking a vehicle and the keys to a second vehicle as they left.
Officers attended the scene due to threats made by the suspects that they would come back, and officers arrested three men in Quayside Drive shortly after 8pm.
The stolen vehicle was also recovered.
All men, a 20-year-old from London E16, a 21-year-old from Colchester, and a 23-year-old from Croydon, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
They have all been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Ward councillor Tim Young sent his thoughts to the victim.
He said: "It is a dreadful incident and I am glad the police are doing their jobs so well.
"I hope the victim gets the support they need and people are brought to justice with rehabilitation at the fore – they have to be punished and rehabilitated."
He further called for more resources to tackle knife crime following the incident.
Mr Young said: “The police need all the resources to tackle knife crime, and the Government have introduced legislation about zombie knives and more resources – but we still need to give greater support.
“It’s very territorial in London, so people are moving out to parts of Essex.
“We’ve seen that happen before, and we have to recognise the gang culture and recognise it as an issue."
Essex Police Sgt Matt Scrivener added: “The officers responding to this victim did an exemplary job to quickly gather the details of the incident and make these arrests.
“We won’t tolerate violent crime in our district, and this incident shows that if you offend in Colchester you will be arrested.”
