Two veterinary practices in Colchester have joined a renowned UK vet group.

Colne Valley Vets, with its clinics in Maudlyn Road, in the Hythe, and Colchester Road, in Wivenhoe, was established in 1947 and has cared for pets of all sizes for almost 80 years.

Many of the more than 45 members of staff have gathered years of experience, many with more than 20 years and two members with more than 30 years each.

Now, the practices have joined the veterinary group Linneaus, which offers a range of primary care and specialist referral services across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

John MacBrayne, partner at Colne Valley Vets, will remain at the practice as clinical director.

He said: “Joining Linnaeus is an exciting change for us. It will help the whole team progress in their careers and areas of expertise.

“Linnaeus has a network of highly experienced vets and nurses across the UK and Ireland who we can collaborate with, and learn from.

“We have always been proud to offer the best possible care for local pets and their owners, and this will continue. The support of Linnaeus enables us to improve and develop as a team and as part of the Colchester community.”

Colne Valley Vets’ main clinic in the Hythe area is accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and is equipped with an x-ray and ultrasound suite, endoscopes and an in-house laboratory.

David Walker, chief medical officer at Linnaeus, said: “We are so pleased to be working with the dedicated team at Colne Valley Vets.

“Everyone is focused on offering high-quality care by developing their knowledge and improving the experience of patients, which completely aligns with our own priorities.

“We’re looking forward to supporting pets and their owners in Colchester and getting to know everyone at Colne Valley Vets.”
