A WOMAN died three days after an X-ray procedure showed it was “unlikely” there was an obstruction in her digestive system.

Melanie Danks, 49, had a history of swallowing items and was taken to Colchester Hospital on August 9.

Essex Coroner’s Court heard on Thursday how an X-ray was performed on Ms Danks and she was discharged because it was deemed “unlikely there was an obstruction”.

She attended Clacton Hospital three days later and was transferred to Colchester Hospital where her condition deteriorated.

Ms Danks died later that day.

Coroner’s officer Andy Flack told the inquest a post-mortem examination was conducted and a provisional cause of death was given as gastrointestinal obstruction and small bowel ischemia, and bronchopneumonia.

A further inquest hearing is expected to take place next year.
