A WOMAN bus driver has been crowned Miss Colchester Galaxy - and dedicated the win to her late father.

Anya Hudson, 23, from Colchester, took the title after making her debut in the pageantry world.

She will now represent her hometown at the prestigious Miss Galaxy UK finals in March 2025 and hopes to compete internationally next summer.

Her success is more than just a crown and sash for Anya — it’s a heartfelt tribute to late father David Allen, who died last year from motor neurone disease.

“My dad and I shared a passion for charity work,” said Anya.

“He dedicated his life to helping others in Colchester, working with numerous charities and even the local council.

"Entering this pageant is my way of paying homage to him and the bond we had.”

Anya channelled her grief into action, tirelessly raising awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

The cause is deeply personal to her, as she works to make a difference for others affected by the same illness that took her father.

Anya said: “MND has no cure, so any money we raise goes to fund research that brings us closer to finding one.

“The MNDA has been a lifeline, not just for me but for so many families. Their support and resources are invaluable.”

Her commitment includes taking part in a 10km Winter Walk in London this January, as well as organising local fundraisers.

Anya praised the pageant community for boosting her work.

“Pageants are so much more than pretty dresses,” she said.

“The women I’ve met are all advocates for causes close to their hearts. Together, we’ve created a network of support and action.

“I never saw myself as a pageant girl. I’ve always been more focused on my work as a bus driver and my photography hobby.

"But seeing the impact my friends in pageantry were making inspired me to take the leap.”

Mum Dawn Allen and long-term partner Thomas Aldwich have been Anya's biggest cheerleaders.

“They were definitely shocked when they first heard I was participating because I have never been a girly-girl,” said Anya, with a smile.

“But they are really excited and incredibly supportive.”

The Miss Galaxy UK finals will also feature a gown custom designed by Anya’s best friend and fashion degree student, Camden Woodhouse.

She added: “I feel incredible about where my pageant journey has taken me.

"I’ve lost my dad, but I’m determined to keep his legacy alive and help others in his honour.”
