IT was another triumph for the Prodigy.
Essex brings the best out of the out-of-the ordinary group who hail from Braintree.
Pigeon Detectives had earlier joked the National Grid will be brought to a standstill by The Prodigy’s lighting effects on the 4Music Stage.
The 80-minute set had the opposite effect on the crowd which was literally bouncing.
Keith Flint and MC Maxim worked them up into a frenzy with the usual foulmouthed tirades.
But it’s more than image and reputation that makes The Prodigy great.
Keith and Maxim are great showmen, theatrical at times, and Liam Howlett, keeps the tracks, some dating back to 1991, fresh.
They kicked off with Their Law but the crowd erupted two tracks later with Breathe.
Keith, sporting a white and red striped jacket with the words “My Dogs Will Kill You”, had the first of a handful of forays in to the front row during Spitfire – a track from 2005.
He took centre-stage with Firestarter to the crowd’s delight.
They ended the “first half” by spanning 11 years in the space of three tracks when they played Voodoo People.
A minute or two break ensued which got the crowd pumped up before they returned with Poison.
Smack My Bitch Up with some memorable showmanship from Keith really got the place kicking before they finished the set with classics like Out of Space.
Phenomenal stuff.
