TENDRING has been named as one of the most deprived rural areas in England.
The Commission for Rural Communities has just released the figures in a report.
While most of the top ten areas are in the north of England, Tendring was one of a handful of southern areas named.
The figures were an update on the state of the countryside measured in 2004, which found that rural areas had gone backwards since then.
They show the 14 most deprived areas, which include those that are 80 per cent rural and those that are 50 per cent rural.
Tendring comes in at number five of those that are 50 per cent rural.
