Taxi drivers are accusing a council of putting short-term profits before the good of a seaside town.
Alan Kirkham, vice-president of the Tendring Taxi Association, claims there are too many taxis working in Clacton, and Tendring Council is selling too many taxi licences.
The group plans to complete a survey of taxi drivers plying their trade in the town centre next year.
It hopes the results will prove there are too many taxi drivers from surrounding areas such as Harwich and Manningtree coming to Clacton.
