A PAIR of songwriters hope to team up with this year’s winner of The X Factor.
Colin Bennett, of Colchester, and Colin Steele, of Little Clacton, believe their power ballad What Would You Do Tonite will be a hit for Alexandra Burke, who won the TV show at the weekend.
The pair have worked with Alexandra’s mother, Melissa Bell, in the past.
She is a professional singer and recorded the song for them in 1999, shortly after it was written.
They are hoping that through her influence they can get the track to Simon Cowell and Alexandra.
They are sure that it could prove to be a massive hit for the singer, who is widely tipped to take the number one spot this Christmas with her cover of Hallelujah.
Mr Bennett, who works as a taxi driver by day, said: “Hopefully, we stand a very good outside chance of getting something done with The X Factor winner.”
The 55-year-old said they had met Melissa when she performed at Bentley Country Park in Great Bentley last year, and she had told them she loved the song.
He said he and songwriting partner Colin Steele had been gripped by The X Factor and they had been rooting for the singer.
They believe she could be even bigger than last year’s winner Leona Lewis.
“As much as I like Leona Lewis, this girl is better,” he said.
Mr Bennett has been writing tracks together with policeman Mr Steele for more than ten years. The pair are signed to Associated Music International and Sony UK.
One of their songs was a hit for singer Amy Cruz last year, and their songs have been recorded by Nashville artist Damon Mitchell.
Mr Bennett said he had a good feeling about their hopes to work with Miss Burke, adding that the song almost seemed to have been waiting for her.
“This just seems like fate,” he said.
