ONE lucky Colchester schoolgirl was stunned to be presented with a flatscreen television.
Every year, Colchester fire station runs a fire safety initiative sponsored by the Gazette and Hughes Television and Audio, with all primary schools in the borough.
Nine-year-old Peonie Gage, of Heathlands School, West Bergholt, was presented with the top prize of a television by Gary Porter, Hughes manager, and John Hibberd, a firefighter with Colchester’s green watch.
Mr Hibberd said: “Peonie was amazed that she had won and there was a big gasp from the other children as she was presented with the TV in front of her schoolmates. Peonie’s parents were also at the presentation, and her dad said that he was glad it was all over as he was finding it hard to keep it secret.
The other children’s posters were used around the schools to promote fire safety.
