A FATHER-of-three who assaulted his former girlfriend in Colchester town centre has been given a three-month curfew.

Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard that Jonathan Yarham, 28, of Buxton Road, Colchester, had met Martina Mathers for a drink on the evening of November 12, after they had been together for about six weeks.

Mathers, who is currently serving a sentence in Holloway Prison, had been drinking heavily that day, the court heard.

When she refused to go home with Yarham at about 10.30pm, he pushed her through the doors of a kebab shop in Queen Street, causing her to fall and bump her head.

She also injured her little finger in the incident, which was caught on CCTV.

Yarham, who is under a community order for a previous offence, admitted the assault and expressed remorse for the incident.

Speaking at court yesterday, district judge David Cooper called the event “childish”. He ordered Yarham to be electronically tagged for three months, and gave him a curfew of 10pm to 6am every day until March 18.

Yarham must also pay £60 costs, as well as £235 from a previously unpaid fine.

“I know you are sorry, but could you just not push females about – it's a simple thing not to do,” he said.

“The curfew will stop further trouble in the town centre.

“It looks like you'll be having a quiet Christmas.”
