TOWN centre residents have been thanked for their contributions to update their parking schemes.
The reviews in St Mary’s, the Dutch Quarter, Roman Road and Castle Road, aimed to help tackle increasing demand for parking spaces in residential streets by residents, as well as commuters and shoppers.
Proposals to be recommended by Colchester Council to Essex County Council include limiting the number of permits to two per household, introducing new resident permit only bays where possible, and promoting visitor permit conditions, explaining rules for overnight visitors.
In Zone D, which covers the Dutch Quarter, Roman Road and Castle Road, permit holders are to be allowed to use St Mary’s or Priory Street car parks overnight.
Councillor Paul Smith, resources and business portfolio holder said: “The residents’ feedback has been used to make recommendations, to improve the schemes which are nearly 30 years old, to Essex County Council as the Highways Authority for implementation.”
Further consultation has been carried out in Mile End with the results to be published soon, while other areas will be reviewed over the next four years.
