YOUNGSTERS at an after-school club and nursery and a special needs school celebrated getting early Christmas gifts.
The presents were donated by the Children’s Legal Centre to Stepping Stones play and learn group, in Colchester, and Market Field School, in Elmstead Market.
Carol Nice, of Stepping Stones, and Gary Smith, headteacher at Market Field, were presented with the gifts by Professor Carolyn Hamilton, director of the Children’s Legal Centre, at Essex University.
The toys were donated by guests at a dinner held by the centre to mark Universal Children’s Day on November 20.
The money raised is to go towards a project by the Children’s Legal Centre in Tajikistan, one of the countries where the Children’s Legal Centre assists the government and non-governmental organisations in the development of child rights standards.
Prof Hamilton said: “We are pleased to make this donation to the play and learn group and Market Field School.
“As part of our campaigning on children’s rights, we firmly believe that children should be allowed to be children – and that includes being able to play and develop their creativity.”
