A TEENAGER headbutted his victim in the face after launching an unprovoked attack at Essex University.
Nathan Burrage, 19, punched and headbutted Scott Fleuty in a bar on the Wivenhoe campus, a court heard.
The teenager then picked up a barstool and hit his victim in the face with it, cutting Mr Fleuty’s nose, said Philip Pearson, prosecuting.
He said the victim didn’t even know who his attacker was.
Burrage, of St James Road, Braintree, admitted causing actual bodily harm but denied injuring Mr Fleuty with the bar stool during the September 13 assault.
The court heard the out-of-work electrician had had a troubled childhood.
Colchester magistrates said it was a sustained and unprovoked assault.
“You can’t go around attacking people just because you feel like it,” they told him.
Burrage was given a two-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
He must also do 100 hours of unpaid work and get anger therapy.
