A VOTE of no confidence has been made against Essex County Council for accepting a plan to relocate the roundabout outside Frinton’s railway gates.
Frinton town councillors are concerned that the project – essential as part of a £90 million upgrade on the Colchester to Walton rail line – will be less safe than the previous road layout.
Mayor Terry Allen has called on Norman Hume, the county council’s portfolio holder for highways, not to sign off on the scheme.
“Now the road works are nearing completion we can see that it is not safer and maybe a danger to our residents,” he said.
The town council criticised the county council for ignoring specialist advice that traffic signals would have been better.
A spokesman for Essex County Council said: “Frinton Town Council regrettably appear to be implacably opposed to a scheme which has been independently assessed and will deliver nearly half a million pounds of safety improvements."
