Police launched an operation at a railway station in a bid to deter people from carrying knives in Clacton.

Officers from Clacton police station and the British Transport Police launched the joint initiative at Clacton railway station on Thursday.

The operation saw police using drugs dogs and portable metal detector arches.

During the initiative, named Operation Effective, 29 people were searched, but no knives were found.

Six people were given fixed-penalty notices by the British Transport Police for fare evasion.

A man in his early 20s was also given a warning after officers found a small amount of cannabis on him.
