A NATIVITY play with a Latino twist was performed in front of delighted primary school pupils.
Pupils from Colchester County High School’s Spanish club, led by Eri Hobbs, are learning to celebrate Christmas in a traditional Mexican way.
After visiting Lexden and Willow Brook primary schools, they travelled to Home Farm Primary, Shelley Road, to perform a nativity play entirely in Spanish.
Afterwards they sang traditional songs, while youngsters took it in turns to try to break a pinata – created by Mrs Hobbs out of papier mache and filled with sweets – whilst blindfolded.
The pinata, originally from Italy, has become a Mexican tradition for celebrations where there are children involved.
Each pupil watching also received a parcel “aguinaldo”, containing a clementine and sweets.
