WHILE for most, Christmas is a time of celebration, it must be a season turkeys do not look forward to.
All except Terence the turkey – who will spend Christmas Day at the dinner table of the Barron family before moving to a new home. While poultry farming couple Roger and Marianne Barron, based at Pattocks Farm in Chappel, enjoy one of their many other turkeys, Terence will be a guest of honour and will feast on a plateful of grain.
Mr Barron, 53, said he will then move to the home of a family from Wix, who had visited the farm to find a new pet and were drawn to him.
He said Terence, with his strong personality and independent streak, stood out.
“When somebody said they wanted a pet he was the obvious one to go for,” Mr Barron added.
“He was a bit more outgoing than the others. He would come up and peck on your wellingtons.
“When I went into the pen he would follow you about a bit more.
“Occasionally he would fly out over the fence and into the field next door.”
