YOUNGSTERS at a north Colchester school spent a day learning about how to build a community.
The children from North School, in John Harper Street, Colchester, had a visit from Roseanne Bullen, of Linden Homes, to tell them about a housing development near the school.
She came to talk to them about the Northfields site – a 450-home community in Turner Road as part of a curriculum-led project.
The children were taught about getting planning permission and designing the site, through to selling the homes.
She said: “Northfields will bring a new community to Colchester and with North School just a few minutes from the development, it’s likely that a number of the children and their families will either know people buying here, or even be moving into homes here themselves.”
Teacher Steven Turnbull added: “With Northfields on our doorstep, it has provided the children with an example of how a development progresses from an empty field to what will be a new, fully-fledged community next year.”
