On the issue of the A120 between Colchester and Braintree, it is illogical for local Conservatives to castigate the Government for wanting to concrete over Essex, but also castigate the Government for cancelling the new A120 route.

This road would involve concreting over a tract of Essex which is mostly unspoilt.

This lack of logic is further compounded by the way the Conservative leader talks of environmentalism, while Tory councillors walk the other way by supporting road building and doing nothing for trains and buses.

Rather than upgrading the A120, let’s have a link road from the A12 to A130 just north of Chelmsford.

Then extend the Braintree train line to Stansted airport, not necessarily electrified.

This would save half the cost of the gold-plated A120 plan, which is too costly at £500million and too expensive in others ways.
