FROM the Os to the Bees and White Hart Lane to Wembley Way, a man is taking to two wheels to follow in his footballing father’s footsteps.
Stewart Houston is cycling around London’s 12 football grounds with three friends to raise money for Help for Heroes.
His dad, also called Stewart, ended his playing days at Colchester United in 1986, before going on to take charge at Arsenal in two spells in 1995 and 1996.
The footballing journey, on September 6, will take the friends the 60 miles from Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium across the capital to finish at Wembley.
“It’s an international weekend, so there aren’t any matches on, which would have complicated matters,” the Lexden resident said.
“We’ve got no idea how long it’ll take and will be taking pictures at each ground to prove we got there.”
The 35-year-old is riding with fellow Colcestrians Adam Harridence and Justin Mayhew, and Londoner Paul Woodcock.
Stewart said: “A friend did a parachute jump and we were all sitting in the pub watching the FA Cup Final talking about doing something ourselves for charity. We were throwing ideas around and by the end of the day decided on doing this.
“While we’ve been doing training rides most weekends around the countryside, that’s very different to riding through London.”
Through his playing and managerial career, Stewart’s dad has links to five of the London clubs: Chelsea, Brentford, Arsenal, QPR and Tottenham. “He’s played at all the grounds and thinks it’s a great idea to raise money,” Stewart said.

The project is raising money to send a 14-month-old girl to America for treatment for a rare tumour. People can donate by searching for the Maisie Rose Project in Facebook.
