A DISABLED man who has put up with leaks in his housing association property for two years has been told the wait for repairs will have to go on.

Stan Ager, of Bartram Avenue, Braintree, has lived in his home for 19 years, but problems arose in 2007, caused by alteration works done by a previous tenant.

Greenfields Community Housing put up scaffolding with plastic covers, and the temporary structure still remains in place.

Mr Ager, who suffers from asthma, angina and a bad back, said the temporary structure had rotted away and the plastic sheets had blown off.

The 57-year-old, who wants to stay in the home, added: “It’s like Niagara Falls when it rains. The ceiling is down. I’m fed up.”

Amanda Bhavnani, Greenfields communications advisor, said the temporary structure would allow the association time to thoroughly investigate the matter and discuss the best way forward.

She said: “The reason for the scaffolding is a rear extension had been added to the property by the previous tenant and internal walls had been removed.

“There were also alterations to the drainage system. The roof was found to be leaking and so a temporary structure to protect the property was put in place.”
