It is outrageous for Colchester Council to deny cutting the budget for plants in Colchester.
At previous council meetings this year’s plant budget was clearly stated to be cut by £17,000.
In previous years Chris Rawlinson, the town centre manager paid by the council, managed the planting.
She got 27 firms to donate to the “Colchester in Bloom” campaign.
Since the failure of the Bid application, her job was ended and the borders were abandoned.
Even the sunflower competition was stopped.
Clearly Colchester Council failed to plan ahead.
What made it worse was the refusal to allow the public to do anything.
The outside courtyards of Angel Court are still a weedy rubbish strewn area because the council refused donated pot plants from concerned Colcestrians.
So thanks must go to our green superhero, the Human Shrub, who showed that we can stand-up to this plant hating council.
Roll on November when the tulip planting season starts!
