We returned yesterday from a short break to Leeds (don’t mention the cricket) and if ever there was a city that was switched on, then Leeds is it.
The city centre was packed, I’d say 95 per cent or more of shops were open (as in not boarded up) everywhere was clean, relaxed and a lovely atmosphere, even though it was like a busy Christmas Eve.
There were buskers, ice cream sellers, a free inner-ring bus service and the whole shopping area was pedestrianised.
What was also a very good idea – a paramedic patrolling on a bicycle!
If only Colchester councillors could take out a leaf from their Yorkshire counterpart’s book. There certainly wasn’t any evidence of the credit crunch up north – well done Leeds!
