A SPONSORED run from Walton to Clacton Pier in memory of Leala Milleare, who died of cancer two months ago, looks set to raise nearly £5,000.
The run was organised by Leala’s cousin, Lee Milleare and his friend Mark Climpson, from Clacton, who are now also preparing to run in the New York Marathon in her memory.
The pair have been in training for the marathon for some months and thought it would be nice to have some company.
It led to 54 relatives and friends of Leala pulling on their running shoes and collecting sponsorship with the money going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Leala died in June, aged 29, having being diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2007.
Her mum, Jill Milleare, said another fundraising event was planned in November in aid of St Helena Hospice where Leala was looked after before her death
