COLCHESTER’S mayor has revealed himself a fan of one of the town’s major employers.
Henry Spyvee toured the Axial Way factory of ventilation compamur Flakt Woods and collected a £1,000 cheque for his official charities.
Spokesman James Griffiths said the donation was to mark the firm’s celebration of 100 years of trading in the town – it started as Woods of Colchester.
He added: “We have been part of Colchester for such a long time and employed so many people from the town, we wanted to give something back to the community. We are a local firm and this is going to support local good causes.”
Mr Spyvee’s charities for the year are the Army Benevolent Fund, Christian Youth Outreach, Colchester Emergency Night Shelter, CO1, which provides a cafe-style environment at Holy Trinity Church, and St Helena Hospice.
