BUDDING sailors are set to take to the sea for the Harwich Raft Race.
Rafts, crewed by teams in fancy dress, will battle it out in the water off Harwich beach, on Sunday.
Organiser Tony Woods said: “Everyone is really looking forward to it. We hope to have a lot of people taking part and to have a great day.”
Races will start at 1pm, with a sandcastle competition also being judged in the afternoon.
The day will include a tug of war competition, prizes for the best raft, a children’s race and a hog roast.
Although the beach is cleaned before the event, participants are encouraged to wear shoes.
Rescue boats, as well as members of Harwich Subaqua Club, will be on hand should anyone get into difficulties.
All rafts entered will be checked thoroughly before the start of the race to ensure they are safe to use.
