A MARKET could be on the move again in an attempt to revitalise trade in Maldon.
The district council’s community services committee is expected to consider the relocation of the Butt Lane market at its meeting on September 1.
Brenda Keighley, chairman of the committee, said she would welcome any discussions which may lead to a more vibrant market.
Suggestions from residents who responded to a public consultation on the future of the district, included moving the market near to the Blue Boar pub, in Silver Street, and creating a temporary pedestrian zone for it in the High Street.
David Williams, vice-chairman of the committee, said there had been problems with attendance at the market, and a move to a more prominent location may give the town a boost.
At Easter 2005, the market relocated from White Horse Lane to Butt Lane car park, which was considered a better location.
Within eight months, some traders said the move had not worked. They suggested it should be based in the High Street.
