POLICE say the body found in a river in Colchester was that of a 23-year-old man from Rowhedge.
They have not named the man, but say his family have been informed.
Tributes have been left close to the spot in the river Colne, near East Street, where a dog walker spotted the body on Friday at about 7am.
Police had searched the area six hours earlier after a member of the public heard splashing.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious. The coroner's office has been informed and an post mortem examination and inquest will take place in due course.
