A GREAT grandmother’s inspirational fight against breast cancer has inspired her family to raise money for a Colchester hospital.
Sarah Smith, 93, needed a seven-week course of radiotherapy at Essex County Hospital to recover from a tennis-ball sized lump.
It has shrunk to the size of a pea, and the former hospital domestic worker will find out in October if the treatment was a complete success.
Her family are holding a Big Pink Pamper event at the Lexden Road hospital on October 1 to raise money for digital breast cancer facilities.
Daughter Patricia Alabaster, 67, granddaughter Brenda Seaborn, 46 and great-granddaughter Jasmine Seaborn, 18, are working with friend Julie Shelley to offer an array of pampering activities.
Mrs Smith, of Rayner Road, Shrub End, said she wanted to thank Dr Phil Murray and his team for their care.
She said: “I was not afraid at all.
“I didn’t mind going because they were lovely.”
Mrs Seaborn said the family wanted to raise more than £1,000 for the hospital, and increase awareness.
