A MAN has been put under a curfew for breaching his sex offender’s banning order.
Damien Chandler, 22, of Fronks Road, Dovercourt, befriended a mother-of-four and ended up playing cards and watching TV with the woman and her three-year-old daughter.
An order, imposed last year on Chandler for making a six-year-old girl to put her hand in his trousers, banned him from contact with children unless their parents were aware of his offending history.
He had not told the woman about the order when he called at her home in the town on February 24, Chelmsford Crown Court heard. The woman was present throughout his contact with the girl and was surprised when police arrived to arrest Chandler after tip-off.
For the original offence, he was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and a five-year sexual offences prevention order.
Chandler’s lawyer stressed he was never alone with the girl and had not expected children to be present when he called.
The judge extended Chandler’s sex offender’s order until March 2018 and put him under a month’s 6pm-midnight curfew, monitored by an electronic tag He also added three months to Chandler’s suspended sentence.
