RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes after a bomb scare at a Colchester police station.

Officers cordoned off a number of roads surrounding the station in John Kent Avenue on Saturday afternoon after a suspect package was found.

Darryl Hearn, who lives on the road, said: "I started noticing as I looked out of the window at 2.45pm.

"Across the road they cordoned off Catherine Hunt Way.

"I spoke to a policeman, they had a suspect bag in the Shrub End police station.

"They evacuated people from their homes."
