MERCURY Prize-winners Elbow brought the biggest cheers of the night with a brilliant performance.
Oasis's no show meant their set was extended to an hour and a quarter.
And they made full use of it with epic versions of Newborn and set closer One Day Like This.
As the sun went down, they came to the stage with a string quartet and brass to perform a spine-tingling version of Starlings.
But the biggest cheer of the night came with a suitably barnstorming performance of Grounds For Divorce.
It is unlikely many of Elbow's fanbase were torn between seeing them and Lady Gaga, who is now completing a set on the Channel 4 stage.
The evening has already seen Katy Perry with what could be a festival first: a costume change mid set.
The American starlet proclaimed she felt a little bit English, before performing a cover of Queen's Don't Stop Me Now.
The half hour will see headliners Snow Patrol, replacing Oasis, Keane, MGMT and British Sea Power take the stage.
